New Stage Good Company

New Stage depends on the support of volunteers to keep the curtain rising. You can make a difference by giving a few hours of your time.

Some jobs require a regular commitment throughout the season, say once or twice per show; others are assigned "as needed." If you have a little free time and want to get involved, look over the list and see if the right assignment is there for you. If you can only commit to a quick job every now and then, maybe you're the ideal "SPOT Volunteer."

Good Cooks
For a variety of occasions New Stage needs good cooks!  Opening night receptions, parties, fundraisers are a few of the events needing good cooks.  It's always extra special when the treats come from home and were concocted with a dash of love. We hope to compile of list of several willing folks.

Ushers, Ushers, we need Ushers
Ushers are New Stage Theatre's public face.  Every performance must have a crew of ushers to hand out playbills and help the audience to their seats.  Ushers also help with refreshments at intermission.

Poster Masters/Mistresses
Posters must be delivered and hung up at pre-arranged sites all over town before every production. How many can you handle? 10? 20? More? Pick up a list of places plus a bunch of posters and give New Stage a huge helping hand.  (Must have your own car and a valid license and insurance.)

Subscription Campaigners
Daytime volunteers are needed to help the box office by making calls to subscribers old and new, letting them know how to renew their subscription, or starting a new one. Requires telephone savvy and attention to detail.

Photography Buffs
Are you skilled with a camera? New Stage needs a variety of informal photographs to document off-stage goings-on, from people having fun in the Hewes Room at intermission to special events like Foods Fantastic or sponsor parties. Arrange to pick up a roll of film at the event, and return the exposed roll when you leave.

Set Strikers
A few healthy assistants are with carpentry (or de-carpentry) skills are needed to help the stage crew dismantle the set and clear off the stage following the last performance of each play.

Table Manners
We plan to start a promotions and information table at performances this season, where patrons can learn about volunteer opportunities and purchase show-related merchandise. This is a very visible assignment for volunteers who enjoy talking with people and can handle the flurries of activity before and after the shows and at intermission. One or two volunteers are needed at each performance; individuals, pairs, or parent/child teams (minimum age: 12 years old) are ideal for the job!

Special Events Volunteers
Several special events are held by New Stage Theatre every season, such as Foods Fantastic and the spring fundraiser. These are usually events that require dozens of volunteers doing everything from the initial planning to the final cleanup.

School Matinee Assistants
Each season New Stage Theatre presents 30-40 special matinee performances for students groups from schools across the state. One volunteer is needed each time to assist with organizing and seating the students and to help at the concession stand during intermission.

Set painters
Work with the staff Scenic Artist to paint the set for each new show. It requires late night availability, and the ability to follow instructions.

Running Crew
Wonder what goes on behind the scenes while a performance is going on? Well, stop wondering, put on some blacks (black clothing, that is), and help us out. Jobs range from operating a spotlight (we'll show you how) to moving scenery to running the sound board. Find out what's really behind some of your favorite special effects.

Are you just too BUSY?
Think you don't have enough time to be a great volunteer?
Wish there was some way you could lend a hand?

If so, THIS JOB IS FOR YOU!

Spot Volunteers
Every now and then?. And ONLY when you're willing and available!

We're developing a database of volunteers who can only be available every now and then - and occasionally at the last minute. Off one-time tasks often crop up, so this list of volunteers will help cover those temporary needs. You'll fill out a job preference form to let us know what types of assignments you want, and we'll contact you only when you're needed. If you're available when we call, that'll be great; if not, there will always be next time! Basically, this gives us your permission to call and ask but places you under no obligation to say yes.
