THE ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF

 

FRANCINE THOMAS REYNOLDS (Artistic Director) has worked as a professional actress and director for more than 20 years. She has been the artistic director at New Stage Theatre since 2006. Last season she has directed Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, which received the 2009 Best Play Award from the Jackson Free Press, Boeing Boeing and Breaking Up is Hard to Do.  She has recently appeared as Lucille in Dividing the Estate and as Edna Earle in Eudora Welty's The Ponder Heart. She has directed a variety of shows including Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure, A Christmas Carol, Gee's Bend, A Raisin in the Sun and I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change.  Some of her favorite acting roles at New Stage include Chris in Rumors and Belinda in Noises Off. Reynolds has enjoyed adjudicating and serving as commentator for the Mississippi High School Drama Festivals, Poetry Outloud, Southeastern Theatre Conference auditions and Mississippi's English Speaking Union Shakespeare Competition. She has been listed on the Mississippi Arts Commission Artist Demonstrator Roster and developed a one person show about Georgia O'Keefe, which she performed at the Mississippi Museum of Art. Reynolds worked as a locations casting director on several films and commercials shot in Mississippi from 1996 - 2007. The last film she cast, Ballast, won directing and cinematography awards at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. Originally from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Reynolds enjoys living in Jackson with her husband, Chuck.

 

DAWN BUCK (Managing Director) began her career at New Stage in the fall of 1981 as a box office assistant.  Since that time she has worked as box office manager, audience services director, house manager, bookkeeper, business manager and marketing director. Her door, she says, is always open to comments and concerns about the theatre.  Buck's other professional credits include The International Ballet Competition, Thalia Mara Arts International presenting the World Performance Series and Imageworks films for business.  She is a graduate of Leadership Jackson and recently served on a grant review panal for the Mississippi Arts Commission.  She and her husband David, live in the Fondren neighborhood and have two sons, Ben and Blake.

 

BILL MCCARTY III (General Manager) is a graduate of the University of Mississippi and has extensive background in wholesale and retail sales and real estate property management with the Jitney Jungle stores. McCarty has volunteered with New Stage for more than 38 years in all areas including production, running crews, lighting and sound design and New Stage fundraising events. He is involved in the day-to-day management, maintenance and production for the theatre and serves on the Board of Directors.  His favorite design credits are Greater Tuna 1986 production, A Streetcar Named Desire, The Gin Game and A Christmas Carol 1984 production.

 

MELISSA TILLMAN (Marketing Director) is a graduate of Belhaven College where she received a B.A. in technical theatre. Most recently at New Stage, she served as the Audience Services Director. She has worked as a box office associate at Lawlor Events Center in Reno, Nevada and assisted with many box office activities at Belhaven College. Dubinski has stage managed many shows in several parts of the country, including Las Vegas and Tennessee. Her stage managing credits include Oklahoma!, Meet Me in St. Louis, The Wizard of Oz, Taming of the Shrew and Love's Labours Lost. Her most recent work includes Noye's Fludd and La Boheme with the Mississippi Opera. She currently resides in Fondren with her husband, Kyle, and has been with New Stage for five seasons.

 

CHRIS ROEBUCK (Education Director) graduated from Mississippi College with a B.A. in history. He taught for two years at Madison Central High School, where among other responsibilities he assisted with the Drama Club. Roebuck was an acting intern at New Stage Theatre, working with four other interns to take three touring shows across the state. He also worked for the Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi, serving as Performance Coordinator/Co-director of the extremely popular and successful R.A.T. (Reject All Tobacco) Pack performances for eight years. Among his numerous professional acting credits, Roebuck has appeared in A Year with Frog and Toad, The Ponder Heart, A Christmas Carol, Idols of the King, Forever Plaid, The Wind in the Willows, A Raisin in the Sun and The Fantasticks. In addition to the education touring shows, his directing credits include Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse, A Christmas Carol and Dead Man's Cell Phone at New Stage and American Buffalo and Dinner with Friends with Fondren Theatre Workshop.

THE PRODUCTION STAFF

 

JERRY FARLEY (Production Manager) is very glad to be returning for his third season at New Stage Theatre.  He received a BFA in theatre technology from Northern Kentucky University and has been building shows for the past 15 years.  Some of his most memorable shows are Ride Down Mount Morgan, Conquest of My Brother, Assassins and Noises Off.

 

BRENT LEFAVOR (Resident Designer) M.A., MFA, has been a professional set and lighting designer since 1976.  He worked at Robert Redford's Sundance Summer Theatre for 10 years; Promised Valley Playhouse in Salt Lake City; was a founding member, director and designer for Walk-On’s Inc. in Salt Lake City; worked as a director and designer Grand Teton Mainstage theatre in Jackson Hole, Wyo.  Lefavor worked for 25 years as an associate professor at a local liberal arts college where he directed numerous productions, designed both sets and lights for more than 100 productions, and taught in all areas of theater education. He has designed lights for many shows at New Stage; Lefavor also designed the sets for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Smokey Joe's Cafe, Noises Off and You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown for New Stage. He also has been seen as an actor in Jackson, appearing as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, Cromwell in A Man for All Seasons and C.S. Lewis in Shadowlands.

 

RICHARD LAWRENCE (Technical Director) serves as the Vice President of Fondren Theatre Workshop and was seen recently as Riff Raff in FTW's production of Rocky Horror. He also was the director of the widely successful production of Cabaret, which was a joint production of FTW, Actor's Playhouse of Pearl, with support from New Stage. Lawrence has been seen in New Stage productions of Trip to Bountiful and Unframed's The Eight: Reindeer Monologues.

 

LAWRENCE RAYBON (Stage Manager) has been working behind the scenes at New Stage since 2004.  A Texas native, Raybon works as both sound designer and stage manager for New Stage.  Some of his favorite shows include To Kill a Mockingbird,  Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse, Nunsense, and I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change.  He would like to thank his wife Lesley for all her love and support.

 

RUTH TAYLOR (Props Master? Production Assistant), is excited to join the New Stage production team for a second season. A Jackson native, Taylor received a B.A. with Honors in Theatre Studies from Wellesley College. Some of her favorite shows include The Foreigner and A Year with Frog and Toad. 

 

LESLEY RAYBON (Costume Shop Manager) joined New Stage in its 39th season as an acting intern, since then she has worked both onstage and off. Lesley is excited to be taking over the costume shop this season as Costume Shop Manager. Some of her favorite shows include, Idols of the King, I Love you, You're Perfect, Now Change, and all of the summer camp shows. She recently designed the costumes for Beauty and the Beast Jr. and The Complete Works of Shakespeare Abridged. When not at New Stage, Lesley enjoys puppeteering for Puppet Arts Theatre and working as a barista at Starbucks on Northside Drive.

 

 

BOX OFFICE STAFF

 

AMY SMITH (Box Office Manager) is thrilled about joining the New Stage staff.  A Mississippi native, Amy studied Theatre Performance at Belhaven University.  After college, Amy stage managed shows such as Almost, Maine for New Stage's UnFramed Series, Rabbit Hole (2010 SETC Winner) for Actor's Playhouse, and Die Fledermaus for Mississippi Opera.  Amy enjoys drinking coffee, playing with her two dogs, and visiting her family in Alaska.  Amy hopes that you enjoy New Stage's sapphire season and looks forward to helping you this year.

BARBARA MARTIN (Box Office/Business Assistant) is in her thirteenth season at New Stage. First joining the staff in 1997, she has served as box office assistant for eleven years and as box office manager for the two years before and during the Intermission Season. She also assists with development and business office functions.

BETTY WONG (Box Office Assistant/Educational Consultant) includes among her New Stage credits consultant for educational tours and long time house volunteer. Other work experiences include the Mississippi International Cultural Exchange Commission and the Mississippi Department of Education. She has served as a consultant to school districts throughout the state of Mississippi. Wong has a B.S. degree in educational psychology from Mississippi State University, and an M.Ed. from Delta State University.

CARLA MARSH (House Manager) received her B.A. in criminal justice with an emphasis in juvenile justice from Jackson State University. She is pleased to be returning to New Stage for her sixth season. Marsh has been employed with the Hinds County Sheriff’s office for 12 years.

 

THE PROFESSIONAL INTERN COMPANY

 

LASHUNDA THOMAS (Acting Intern) has been making the world her stage for the last six years. She has been in numerous colligate theatre productions. Two of her most diverse roles include Hester La Negrita in In the Blood and Henrietta King in Do Lord Remember Me. She has also performed locally in the Jackson-Metropolitan area with J. Lee Productions in No Good Comes to Those Who Do Wrong. She also enjoys singing, volunteering and writing.

 

TYREE WALKER (Acting Intern) has recently earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from the University of Montevallo.  He recently worked at Lincoln Amphitheatre in their production of Lincoln: Upon the Altar of Freedom under the direction of Scott Lank.  He is thrilled to be working at New Stage Theatre this season and looks forward to meeting all of you who attend this season.

 

SYDNEY BLACKWELL (Acting Intern) is thrilled to join New Stage Theatre as an intern for the 2010-2011 season! She is 20 years old and lives in Star, Mississippi.  Sydney has previously appeared at New Stage as Jenny in Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing (2008-2009) and as Emily in last season's production of Dividing the Estate by Horton Foote.  Favorite roles include Mary the Maid in the Fondren Theatre Workshop production of The Bald Soprano, Magenta in the FTW production of The Rocky Horror Show, and Marta in the University of Southern Mississippi's production of Waiting for the Parade.  Other roles include Betty Rizzo in Grease, Mona/Mary Sunshine in Chicago, and Babe the Magrath-Botrelle in Crimes of the Heart.  Sydney also enjoys being involved in children’s community theatre in the Jackson Metro area.  She plans to move to New York to pursue a career in the theatre later next year.

 

DEEJAY GRAY (Directing Intern) comes to Mississippi all the way from Virginia, where he recently graduated from Radford University with a degree in Theatre. Deejay was born in Richmond, VA, where he was exposed to the arts at a very early age. He got “bit by the theatre bug” at the age of 6 when he played Tiny Tim in a production of A Christmas Carol and hasn’t been able to stop since. Some of Deejay’s favorite acting credits include Cinderella’s Prince in Into the Woods, Albert Peterson in Bye Bye Birdie, Nell in The Comedy of Errors and his favorite of all, Max in Lend Me a Tenor. His directing credits include productions of: Line by Isaral Horovitz, Proof by David Auburn and Liza and the Riddling Cave by John Urquhart, which he also choreographed. Deejay is ecstatic to be joining the New Stage Theatre family for the 2010-2011 season!
